Choosing Suitable Pumps for Your Water Company

Water Pipe

Pump suitability is crucial for efficient water management, and selecting the right pump for the job can make or break its overall productivity. But with so many pumps on offer, it can be tricky to find one that suits your system while also improving it.

In this blog, we focus on the Gorman-Rupp Super T Series pump and how it can provide a reliable and cost-effective solution for your water company's pumping needs. We'll also delve into a real-life case study with Anglian Water and see how the Gorman-Rupp Super T Series pump helped them improve their operations.

So, if you're a water company looking to enhance your water management operations, then read on to explore the importance of pump suitability, learn about the Gorman-Rupp Super T Series pump, and discover how it can benefit your business through a real-life case study.

The Importance of Pump Suitability

When deciding on a new pump for your water system, it is paramount to choose the correct type of pump for your operation. For example, using a submersible pump out of water would not work, as the motor is designed to be cooled down by the water it’s submerged in. Use it above ground, and it will overheat, malfunction and become damaged very quickly.

If you are pumping above water, a centrifugal pump is more appropriate but usually requires priming by extracting air from the chamber. However, special centrifugal pumps, such as those from US manufacturer Gorman-Rupp, are self-priming and will remove air automatically. This takes one maintenance job out of your hands.

Gorman-Rupp Super T Series: The Right Pump for the Job

Hydromarque’s recommendation for a pump fit for a high-functioning water company is the Gorman-Rupp Super T Series, a self-priming centrifugal pump that can be utilised for many applications in this field.

Think of the many pump applications in Waste Water Treatment plants after the initial screening or many industrial wastewater applications these pumps could provide betterment for. With these pumps running nearly full-time, a 14% to 19% improved efficiency will result in a significant reduction in power consumption.

Case Study: Anglian Water

Anglian Water certainly agrees with our recommendation of the Super T Series. The East of England water company consulted Hydromarque on finding a solution to their unreliable screw pumps which were causing them issues regularly.

Following an inspection of the site, Anglian Water and Hydromarque trialled a single No. 6” Gorman-Rupp Super T Series pump to assist the diesel-driven surface-mounted pump for one month.

The self-priming centrifugal pump performed well in their system, increasing efficiency and saving time that was previously spent priming. After the successful trial of the first pump, another set was installed into the Anglian pump system.

Following the success of the project, in 2015 Anglian Water decided to replace one of the pumps on the high-level inlet pump station on site. To read more about how we restored the efficiency of Anglian Water pumps with the Gorman-Rupp Super T Series, read our full case study here.
