Salad processing plant - Kent

Hydromarque was contacted by a salad processing effluent plant in Kent about a complete refurbishment. The plant originally had submersible pumps in an existing sump feeding a screen installed when the plant was built, and they need to refurbish their facilities to cater for increased demands and provide an alternative solution for problematic submersible pumps.

Option Discussions

Hydromarque were asked to attend the site by the OEM contractor Aquabio, to look at an alternative option to their existing configuration. They wanted to switch to the Gorman-Rupp Super T Series™ - a self-priming, suction lift, solids handling pump - as a permanent replacement for the submersible pumps.

The above-ground installation of the Super T Series pumps eliminated the need for pumps to be installed underground with lifting gear requirements and the possible need for confined space entry. Additionally, it impacted after-installation care, as the pumps can be worked on locally and at the surface which increases the ease of pump maintenance. The ultimate end result is a colossal saving of time, money and resources, and this idea appealed to the client greatly.

Solution

It was agreed to install 2 No. 3” Gorman-Rupp Super T Series pumps, which were fully commissioned by Aquabio and Hydromarque Ltd.

The client was immediately impressed with the performance of the pump, which can achieve a suction lift of up to 7.5m, as well as its near-universal compatibility with most pumping systems and applications. From pumping raw sewage and humus sludge to food processing and industrial recycling, the Gorman-Rupp T Series is the go-to for most industrial pumping solutions including Aquabio’s salad processing plant.

As of February 2022, both pumps are still in and running trouble-free, marking another success with the introduction of Gorman Rupp’s Super T Series pumps to a large-scale industrial site.
